METAPHYSICS AND LOGIC HAVE BEEN WOUNDED BY VAPID MATERIALISM

CP 6.4. We should expect to find metaphysics, judging from its position in the scheme of the sciences, to be somewhat more difficult than logic, but still on the whole one of the simplest of sciences, as it is one whose main principles must be settled before very much progress can be gained either in psychics or in physics. END

Peirce almost seems a prophet of doom, for his fondest expectations are worth no more than any hope he had of persisting as an actual, accredited academic. He made the best of being the victim of a lifetime of exclusion. People always sensed he was a genius, but impossible according to their lights.

Metaphysics and logic are as he says keys to progress in both physics and psychics -- that is to say, in all fields of knowledge. The 20th century was by and large a theater of regression in both fields despite the best efforts of Heaven to allow freedom while encouraging goodness.

Metaphysics is materialism elaborated with strident efforts to show how everything is determined and measurable. Or it is a more balanced view which accepts the reality of everything while exercising faculties of consciousness to evaluate the ethics and aesthetics of ongoing considerations.

Logic becomes a cold truncation of reality so it functions without ethics or aesthetics. Without these, it limits what can be admitted as real to what can be measured and seen as caused.

The problem, as Peirce has already made clear in prior notes, is that causality has no place in materialist philosophy. Cause is rendered invisible by the collapse of metaphysics.
Peirce died in 1914. The prospects for universal philosophy based on ethics and aesthetics became the longest shot in intellectual history.

The prospect of launching such thought was lost in the entrapment of souls in the zeitgeist of reductive realism. Anything subjective must be wrong. This is power wed to a lie.

We can recover the truths that cannot die. We can begin to express them in the higher frequency that evolution is unveiling.

The curtain is falling on the vapid materialist declension. Peirce's thought is rising not because it has been fully understood but in spite of it.

Logic and goodness lie in the same bracket. What has not been faced and honored will now come to the fore. The shards of spiritual truth are being reassembled. The best dreams of past seers are about to be made plain.
